Details

Remington-manufactured U.S. Model 1903 bolt-action rifle chambered in .30-06 Springfield. It wears an "RA 42-2" barrel — Remington Arms, dated 1942 — placing it in Remington's early World War II 1903 production. The rifle is in excellent mechanical condition with a bright bore and sharp rifling, and comes with an original M1917 leather sling. The stock is stamped with an "FJA" cartouche — the ordnance acceptance mark of Frank J. Atwood, the government inspector at Remington — along with a "P" firing-proof stamp and an "OC"-in-a-square inspection mark.

The Model 1903 Springfield was the classic U.S. bolt-action service rifle, and during World War II Remington produced the rifle to help meet wartime demand before transitioning to the simplified 1903A3. Remington-made 1903s carrying the FJA inspector's cartouche and a 1942-dated barrel are desirable U.S. martial arms, and this example presents cleanly with excellent mechanics, a bright and sharply rifled bore, and correct stock markings. Complete with an original leather sling, it is an attractive representative of Remington's wartime 1903 production for the U.S. military collector and vintage rifle shooter.
