Japanese Type 38 Carbine chambered in 6.5×50mm Japanese (6.5×50SR), manufactured at the Kokura Arsenal. This cavalry carbine version of the Type 38 retains almost all of its factory blued finish and is non-import marked. The Imperial chrysanthemum ("mum") is partially ground. The bore is bright with scattered pitting.
The Type 38 Carbine is the shortened, handier variant of the standard Type 38 rifle, developed for cavalry and other troops needing a more compact arm while retaining the smooth Type 38 action and the mild-shooting 6.5mm cartridge. This Kokura Arsenal example is an honest, non-imported piece retaining nearly all of its original factory bluing — uncommon on Japanese service arms, which were often roughly handled — with a bright bore showing only scattered pitting. The partially ground mum reflects its postwar history. With strong original finish, no import marks, and the desirable carbine configuration, this is an attractive Type 38 Carbine for the Japanese militaria collector.
