British Lee-Enfield No.4 Mk I bolt-action rifle chambered in .303 British, serial number MK409903. The butt socket is marked "M 1943" with the British broad arrow, identifying wartime production at the Royal Ordnance Factory Maltby in 1943, and the left side of the receiver is stamped "No 4 Mk I." The receiver also carries the Century International Arms (Georgia, VT) import marking.
The No.4 Mk I was Britain's standard infantry rifle of the second half of World War II, a simplified and more robust development of the SMLE with a heavier barrel and a receiver-mounted aperture rear sight. Its fast, smooth bolt and ten-round magazine made it one of the finest military bolt-action rifles of its era. This 1943 Maltby example wears its full wood furniture and is shown with a khaki canvas sling — a solid wartime British service rifle for the collector or shooter.
