WWII Japanese Type 38 Arisaka bolt-action rifle chambered in 6.5×50mm Japanese (6.5×50SR), manufactured as part of the 28th Series by the Nagoya Arsenal, in very good condition. The Imperial chrysanthemum ("mum") has been neatly removed and replaced with an "M," indicating the rifle's issue to the Military Reserves. The rifle is NOT import marked and has matching serial numbers on the receiver, bolt body, safety, and firing pin; it is otherwise non-matching. The metal finish is nice original blue showing a little normal wear, and the bore is bright and excellent with strong rifling. The stock was refinished — possibly arsenal-done — and shows some handling marks. It is complete with the correct original cleaning rod.
The Type 38 was the standard Japanese service rifle from its 1905 adoption through World War II, known for its long barrel, smooth cock-on-closing action, and the mild-shooting 6.5mm cartridge. This Nagoya Arsenal 28th Series example is a Military Reserves rifle, its mum neatly replaced with the "M" reserve marking — a distinct and interesting Arisaka variation.
